I would like to thank all of the Paid-on-Call Firefighters who joined together to help make the public aware of the potential consequences of the ICMA study. Both units worked together in educating the public and showing our concern for the safety of the citizens we protect.

Letter to the Editor

I have enjoyed living in Novi for seven years now and have intently watched our politics/leadership from afar. This election cycle has been less than impressive, culminating with Mayor Landry's free half page re-election commentary against the Novi Fire Fighters' actions involving the Novi funded ICMA report.

As a Fire Fighter in another community and an elected union official, I am curious how the Mayor ambiguously says that he could not attend the Fire Fighters' grass roots Candidate Forum and then write on the very same issues for one half page that he says he was told to avoid.

It is regretful that he, and other invited candidates, found a way to conveniently avoid questions from directly affected voters. Did Mayor Landry attend any other political or social event during the forum? What legality was the recommendation from the attorney based on? No one is telling.

There is great evidence that, other than what Mayor Landry says, other cities have severely reduced their level of service currently provided. After reading the other statements made in this one sided, unchallenged commentary, I agree with the Mayor on one thing..."this is pure nonsense".

I moved here because of the great services Novi offers. Now, I believe that voters in Novi have to pay more attention to their elected officials so that we can continue to be the great city we are. Sometimes politicians become "Politicians". I hope this is not happening here.

The Novi Professional Firefighters Fire PAC (Political Action Committee), out of concern that current city sponsored initiatives will diminish overall fire and EMS services for our community, formulated a questionnaire to the candidates to inform and educate the citizens of Novi regarding the values, ideas and positions that each candidate has regarding Novi’s fire and EMS services.
